A Book Review: Matilda
We have the daily routine in our house of reading to the kiddo's before they go to bed, unless it's a super late night. But as they're getting older, 10-15 minute reading time has turned into 30-minutes to an hour with my son in love with Dr. Seuss and my daughter reading several smaller books. So back in October, I bought my daughter Matilda for her birthday back to start diving into chapter books...and us reading a chapter a night turned into two chapters a night with both kids begging for more.
I grew up on Roald Dahl but honestly could not remember this book...I only had images of the 1996 movie with Danny DaVito. I was so much fun to read a children's book with zero judgement and just being able to enjoy it, going along on the journey with my kiddos. I found myself cheering on Matilda as she braved against her parents, Mr. and Mrs. Wormwood and against the awful Ms. Trunchable.
My kids are 7 and 4, and where my 4 year old got board and distracted on some less exciting chapters, both of them retained everything. I've found them chanting around the house "rattle my bones" and my daughter has been insistent in wearing a ribbon in her hair since we finished the book with having a pizza night watching the cheesy but wonderful classic 90's movie.
The conscious is no matter your age, kids or no kids, cracking open a Roald Dahl book is simply a good idea.
